New Years Resolution.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2018!
We said goodbye to the old and we’re now ushering in an AMAZING new year. We have a clean slate and a brand-new beginning.  We are off to a wonderful fresh start!   It’s a perfect tine for goal setting and creating a new New Years Resolution.
But, in knowing where we want to go in 2018, we must be willing to review what we’ve done (or not done) in 2017.  So, over the next few days, I invite you to reflect. Review your year through an honest pair of courageous lenses. What did you accomplish? What tasks did you not quite complete? What can you roll over to this year?

Gratitude.

A good way to start might be with gratitude.
What do you have to be grateful for? In reviewing my own life, all I can say is that my cup runneth over with blessings.  If I were to write down all that I was gifted in 2017, I’d be writing forever.  But I will just say, my 2017 was filled with time spent with friends, a closer connection to my husband, taking care of my health, a successful work year, new adventures, a few unexpected challenges that I successfully weathered, and to top things off, I ended the year having completed another year of strong recovery.  I am also grateful for the things I accomplished last year and because I did not bet myself up for the things I did not complete.

  1. What did I accomplish in 2017? – Aside from work and financial goals, I had 3 overriding goals for last year: maintain my goal weight, get a book deal, stay connected to family and friends.

Focus is a Key to Success.

I stayed focused on 2 of the 3, and as a result, I successfully accomplished 2 of the 3. There is something to be said for being focused. Wherever we place our attention is what we
manifest.

    1. I maintained my goal weight and focused on my health. I committed to attending my Weight Watcher meetings every month. As a Life-timer, I am only required to check in monthly. I exercised every day, except when I was sick or had an early flight. For the second year, But I “chose” not to eat cake, candy, ice cream, pie, or cookies. THAT was a true accomplishment considering there were many days I wanted ice cream and a few Snickers Bars.  I had regular health screenings and quarterly teeth cleanings.  My health was my priority.  Oh, and yes, I also signed up for Medicare.
    2. I stayed connected to friends and family in many ways.  Social media was a great tool, but only as a last resort. It was important that I made time for friends.  I invested in face-to-face meetings such as, meals and coffee dates with girlfriends; when we couldn’t meet we talked on the phone, and for some we texted a lot.  The idea was to stay connected. What I can do better this year is make my calls to family more regular, and send a few “Just Thinking of You” greeting cards.
  1. What did it take to accomplish my successful goals in 2017? It took:
    1. Bona fide “intention” to make them happen
    2. Willingness to do the footwork—even when I did not want to
    3. Focus
    4. Starting early in the year
    5. Daily reminders
    6. Willingness to not do things perfectly, but keep trying
    7. Getting Support, where needed

New Years Resolution

  1. What are my goals for 2018? Here are just a few:
    1. Maintain my weight and fitness goals
    2. Stay connected to family and friends
    3. Recommit to doing Esteemable Acts® workshops
    4. Co-write Fan Fiction book

So, what about you? As you look back on 2017, what did you accomplish? What did it take to be successful? What can you do better this year? What are your goals for 2018?
My formula for identifying ALL of my goals is to categorize them as follows. Feel free to use my list, or modify the list in whatever way suits you. The key is to pinpoint things you want to accomplish and get busy making it happen:

  1. Family
  2. Friends
  3. Health
  4. Business
  5. Financial
  6. Spiritual
  7. Volunteer
  8. Writing
  9. Learning something new

Good luck as you start the new year.
You’ll be hearing from me this year.
