Change Your Life.  This is Your Life.

You can change your life.  You are the artist, the creative source in your life. How often we sit back and wait for someone or something to inspire us. We wait, and wait, and wait for inspiration to hit us. But the truth is, we are creative beings with the power to manifest almost anything we desire. With a powerful creative thought, and some targeted action, we create the canvas called our life.  This is your life and you can do whatever you want with it.  You have the power to change your life.

Change.

Self-esteem comes from DOING Esteemable Acts, and it’s an Esteemable Act to take control of your life. I am not suggesting that it is easy, but I am saying that with right action, you can create the amazing life you want. Picture your life as a blank canvas—nothing on it. But then add a pinch of color, a dash of images, a spoonful of melody, and a cup of friends and you have a really cool life. You can add more color, increase the love, change the images, or modify the canvas in any way you want. The idea is that YOU create the canvas called your life.
Are you creating the picture you want? Does your canvas convey a life of fulfillment and growth? Or does your canvas convey chaos and despair?
When we don’t like what we see in our lives, it’s easy to blame someone else. But I ask, “When you look in the mirror, what image is reflected back at you?” Some would say outside forces, such as a bad parent, an ex-spouse, a former friend, an employer, a bad break, racism, homophobia, a disability, incest, and any number of other things. No doubt, outside forces can and do influence the content on our canvas. But I invite you to consider that more often than not, we allow those outside forces to paint the landscape of our lives and control our outcome.

Change your life.

You are the artist; God is your co-creator. Together all things are possible. But when we mistakenly believe that other people control our destiny we end up feeling bitter and hopeless. In truth, we’re in partnership with a Higher Power, or whatever you choose to call it. I call that power God. We make the initial decisions, and with God’s help, we carry out the plan. God could not render our lives amazing without our assistance. We are the artists, the ones holding the paintbrush, and ultimately we call the shots.
How easy it is to believe we have no control over the events of our lives? How easy it is to believe our lives are preordained and that someone has control over the details? Holding on to that belief renders a big payoff, because when things go wrong it’s not our fault. And when things go right it was just God’s will. But never do we play a part, or so we think.
Today I invite you to consider a different perspective. This may not be easy to swallow if you are a struggling single parent, someone who has just lost a job, or someone facing other tough circumstances. I invite you to first see whether you played a part in where you are. And the best news you can give yourself is to say yes, because if you played even a small part, there is something you can do to change the canvas of your life.
What can you do to re-create your life? What action can you take to create a more appealing image? Remember, you are the artist in your life.
