Last week on the way into the Financial District in the City (San Francisco), I saw a hitchhiker along the side of the road. He was waving a big sign that read, "I Wanna Be Anywhere but Here".

Have you ever wanted to be somewhere other than where you are?

I sure have. In fact, when I saw him standing alongside the road, thumbing a ride with that big sign, for a moment, it brought back a time in my life that was painful and not much fun. A time in my life when all I wanted to do was be anywhere--BUT HERE! Somewhere else—anywhere else. I just didn’t want to be me, and I didn’t want to be here.

Wanting to Be Somewhere Else Compels Us to Change

Wanting to be somewhere else is not always a bad thing. In fact, sometimes it propels us into taking actions that we'd never take, in order to change conditions that no longer serve us. But sometimes, wanting to be anywhere but where we are is a sign of deeper issues. That's what came up for me when I saw the guy with the sign. A time when I hated myself so much that all I wanted, was to be anywhere but here.

Sometimes We Have to Take the Wrong Road to Fine the Right Road.

As a Christian woman, one who not only studies the bible and other spiritual literature, but one who tries to live the principles, I have been putting into practice God-principles for almost 30 years. I'd love to say I started before that time, but for some of us, we have to take the wrong road, in order to discover the RIGHT and righteous road. I am one of those women. No angel, but a woman who, with God's help, lives an amazing life and shares it with other women.

My path was a long and hard one. For years I felt shame and guilt for the life I helped to create--a life pf addiction and sordidness. And while that sounds a little harsh, one of the basic Christian principles that I subscribe to is redemption. And you can't be redeemed until you claim what is real. What is real is that I did not always live the RIGHT life. What is also real is that I do today. With almost 30-years of healthy and wholesome recovery under my belt, a wonderful family, a new attitude, and God as my advocate, I live a life far beyond my wildest imaginings. All that God asks of me is to share the blessing, by supporting other women out of the darkness into the Light.
